VBS 2008- The "West" of the Story

This was a picture taken at VBS last week. We were gold miners and got to wear the old man jump suits and paint our faces black as we told the story of James the brother of John. I was amazed at how well the kids picked up the story and they just LOVED being in the gold mine with all of the lights turned out. Easton and Lexi were a little unsure about the way I was dressed, though.

Tonight Easton led a prayer at church and this is how it went: Dear Lord, Thank you for this church family, please help the sick people to get better, and especially thank you for Jesus. Amen. He has read scripture a few other times on Wed. nights, but for some reason this prayer really just gave me chills and made my eyes fill up with tears. There is just something about hearing a 5 year old pray. I am so thankful to our preacher for encouraging the young men to get up and lead prayers and songs. If the kiddos learn now, then it will be lots easier to get up in front of people when they are older.

On another note: Easton has had lots of questions about God and heaven lately. Today he asked me why God made the devil and why he has to be so mean. I explained to him that he was once a nice angel and then turned against God. He was a little confused so I had to use a Star Wars analogy of how Anakin was good and then turned bad when he turned into Vader. Somehow everything makes better sense to the child when I relate everything to Star Wars. Then he said. " I thought you said that God can do anything?" I said, "He can do anything, Easton." Easton:"well why did God let Daddy's golf ball go out of bounds yesterday at the golf course? Why did he not bring it back because I prayed that Daddy's ball would come back in bounds."Wheew... I told him that yes, God can do anything, but there are just some things that God doesn't worry with. Easton sure has been asking me some tough questions lately. The other day he told me that he really did not want to go to heaven because he did not want to wear a skirt. Come to find out, I guess all of the pictures that he has been looking at in Sunday school have kid with kilts on.

As for Lexi, well...she is still quite the ball of fire. Her new thing is to feed the dogs whatever is frozen in the freezer. Last night she fed the dogs about a pound of frozen brisket. Then I wanted to make french fries and I saw the bag there, but no fries. I asked Lexi where the fries went and she said "Puppies eat! Ummmm...no no puppies" as if the dogs just happen to open the freezer themselves and eat the fries. I have also had to hide all of the coffee mate liquid because she goes into a corner and opens about 5 containers and drinks them. That girs make us laugh everyday!
